The Little Mermaid

A young mermaid falls in love with a human prince after saving him from drowning. She makes a deal with a sea witch to become human so she can be with him. The witch takes her voice and gives her legs, but every step hurts like knives. If the prince marries someone else, she’ll turn into sea foam. He does. She chooses not to hurt him, throws herself into the sea, and becomes a spirit of the air instead of dying. It’s a sad, beautiful story about love, sacrifice, and wanting a soul. Not the Disney version - this is the original fairy tale with a bittersweet ending. *Best for:* Ages 8+. Classic fairy tale, a bit sad but very poetic.
